The real friendstream

When Facebook launched the (in)famous Newsfeed, and when Twitter launched it’s service - the objective was the same. To keep friends/acquaintances updated of each other’s activities/thoughts/ideas real-time.

I was a fan of both, but loved Twitter much more than Facebook thanks to it’s versatility and potential to flatten conversation grounds.

Today, with the so-called coming of Twitter into the mainstream, I feel Twitter is getting a little too overwhelming for a guy who doesn’t sit in front of a computer all-day. A constant stream of links, more links, quotes, funny one-liners and more links. It is practically useless as a mode to remain connected with friends/followers/. So, where did the love go?

The problem lies with this one-click ‘follow on Twitter’ option which has over the last few months made me follow people who are neither friends nor acquantiances.

There in lies the beauty of Facebook Newsfeed. If you’re like me, and you have added just friends/acquantances on Facebook, then the newsfeed that you see there (barring the gazillion moronic quizzes etc) is far more relevant to you - the conversations make for easier/interesting reading.

The real friendstream, my friends, (unfortunately) is Facebook. Twitter - you’re my first love, but sorry, I’m not a man who can carry a huge social web around me. Atleast not for now. Facebook - let’s get it started.
